After the couple lobbed some scandalous and sensational claims in the tell-all with Oprah, the family was shell-shocked and someone had to forge ahead.
According to royal expert Robert Jobson, Charles was the most likely person to have taken charge. He wrote in Hello! magazine, “I think the Prince of Wales has also taken the lead on how the Palace has responded.”
“The Queen is 94 and the Duke of Edinburgh is incapacitated, so he will be trying to placate and learn lessons from this so something can be worked out to everyone’s satisfaction.”
He added, “The royal family like to do things as a team, and if the team is being trashed they like to react as a unit and a family.”
Meghan and Harry both made some unsavory allegations against his family including accusing them of racism. Meghan said that one senior royal raised “concerns” about their son Archie’s “skin color” before he was born.
After the interview the palace released a statement addressing the claims, saying they would be addressed internally as a family.
But it may not have helped matters that a short while later the couple’s friend, tv personality Gayle King, dished on air that Harry had spoken to Charles and Prince William and dismissed the chat as “unproductive.”
The tv show host seemed gobsmacked as she also asserted that, “no one in the Royal Family has talked to Meghan yet at this particular time.”
Of course she failed to mention that at that “particular time” 99-year old family patriarch Prince Philip was in the hospital recovering from heart surgery. So, they probably had pressing matters on their minds, like that of life and death.
Charles is said to be “enormously let down” by the couple’s racism claims and is taking the allegations “the most seriously” within the royals. Meanwhile the queen vowed that the claims would be investigated and “addressed privately.” It was reported that as part of the investigation into the racism claims, the queen herself will question senior royals.
