The Duchess of Sussex who released her book earlier this month, shortly after the birth of daughter Lilibet Diana on June 4, has thanked everyone who supported her book with a personal note on the Archewell website.
In a statement ahead of the book’s release, the former Suits actress said that the story was inspired by the close relationship between her husband and her firstborn, Archie Harrison.
[Celebrating love, representation and inclusivity, Meghan wrote that she hopes the model of masculinity depicted in the book becomes more common
Speaking of the support the book which began as a poem that she wrote for her husband on his first Father’s Day, she said in her note “I’m encouraged to see that its universal themes of love, representation and inclusivity are resonating with communities everywhere.”
She added, “In many ways, pursuing a more compassionate and equitable world begins with these core values. Equally, to depict another side of masculinity—one grounded in connection, emotion, and softness—is to model a world that so many would like to see for their sons and daughters alike. Thank you for supporting me in this special project.”
With bright illustrations that also include a subtle reference to new born daughter Lili, Meghan Markle has said that she hopes the book resonates with every family
Published by Random House Children’s Books, illustrated by award-winning artist Christian Robinson and narrated by Meghan herself in the audio version, Meghan had previously explained the book captures the “warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life.”
With a goal of inclusivity, she previously highlighted, “My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine.”
