Royal Family News: Can You Get Rich Working For The Royal Family?

British royal family news reveals that a commoner’s best bet for seeing the inside of the UK’s royal palaces up close and personal is by being employed to do one of the necessary tasks the royals just don’t do.

Like gardening, washing dishes, and such. How much do these palace jobs pay? First of all, you must be okay with curtsying to your boss! If being asked to make coffee is beneath you, a job at the palace may not be the place for you.

The royal household lists 441 employees and if you’re still interested in a job that expects bowing and scraping literally, here is an idea of what you’ll make in the queen’s employ.

Royal Family News – Royal Cleaners Are Paid A Reasonable Amount

According to the Mirror, a job ad for a “live-in pot-washer” came with a salary of around $24,000 plus room and board. That’s not bad when your room is in a centuries-old castle!

That’s roughly what a dishwasher in the United States makes but sans the bunk in a palace, plus the food which has got to be fabulous.

Royal Family News – Royal Personal Assistants Are Paid Well

According to Observer a 2020 royal family advertisement for a personal assistant opening for the senior manager of the Private Secretary’s Office offers around $47,000 per year. What would a royal personal manager do to earn that pay? The job ad stated duties such as, “managing requests, coordinating meetings and appointments, drafting correspondence and managing inboxes.”

Perhaps more important than the salary is the opportunity to network. According to the ad, the position gives the successful applicant “exposure across the organization” in “a fast-paced and high profile environment.”

No slackers need to apply though, as the candidate must manage, “responsibility from day one” and will need to “rise to the challenge.”

Royal Family News – Royal Gardeners Are Paid Well

In 2021 the royal staffing website advertised for a gardener at Windsor Castle. A salary was not included, but a similar posting for an assistant gardener offered around $25,000 per year, according to the Mirror. Only those with “a passion for horticulture” and a wide range of experience need to apply to the job which includes “mowing and edging” to “conserving the garden’s rich biodiversity.”

If you’d rather work indoors, telephone operators at Buckingham Palace earn roughly $32,000 per year working a typical weekday 9-5 schedule. But you’ll have to keep on your toes as the office gets nearly 4,000 calls each and every week!
