British royal family news reveals that Princess Anne has been called the hardest working member of The Firm. Each year she typically holds the record for the most royal engagements and over the years has proven herself to be a valuable member of the team. Here are three more examples of why Princess Anne is worth more than her weight in gold for the UK Monarchy!
#1 Princess Anne Family’s First Olympian
In 1976 Anne participated in the Montreal Olympic Games as an equestrian when she rode her mother, Queen Elizabeth’s horse, Goodwill. She didn’t win a medal but her participation marked the first time a British royal took part in the Olympic games.
Fun fact: Decades later her daughter Zara Phillips, competed in the 2012 Olympic Games, and a very proud Anne presented her with the silver medal!
#2 Princess Anne Foiled A Kidnap Attempt
On March 21, 1974, Anne was returning to Buckingham Palace from a charity event when her chauffeur stopped the car because another vehicle was blocking the road. A criminal by the name of Ian Ball got out of that vehicle and shot the chauffeur then demanded Anne get out of the car in an attempt to kidnap her.
Her reply? “Not bloody likely.” Anne refused to get out and kept the craven man talking.
“We had a sort of discussion about where or where not we were going to go,” Anne told talk show host Michael Parkinson in 1980. “I was scrupulously polite because I thought it was silly to be too rude at that stage.”
Before it was all over Ball shot three more men, but Anne escaped unscathed.
Ball was arrested and charged with attempted murder and kidnapping and sentenced to 41 years at a high-security psychiatric hospital.

#3 The Princess Clapped Back At “The Crown’s” Hair And Makeup Team
In Netflix’s The Crown, Princess Anne is portrayed by actress Erin Doherty. In an interview, Doherty said it takes the hair and makeup team around two hours to get her hair to look like Anne’s.
In a 2020 documentary Anne she said that made no sense to her: “Actually I read an article the other day about the, I don’t watch Netflix and ‘The Crown,’ but the actress was talking about how long it took them to do their hair like I did,” she said. “And I’m thinking, ‘How could you possibly take that long?’ I mean, it takes me 10 or 15 minutes.”
