Days of Our Lives spent six years developing the father-daughter relationship between longtime and beloved favorite Abe Carver and Lani Price, the daughter he never knew he had until she came to town as a grown woman and a cop — only to ruin the whole thing.
Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Gives Us A Story That Doesn’t Make Sense
One could say that Abe (James Reynolds) learning his long-ago affair with Tamara Price (Marilyn McCoo) was a retcon unto itself as Tamara never revealed she was pregnant when she left Salem back in the 1980s, but long-lost kids showing up as adults is a soap trope and the parent and new ‘child’ usually bond and they forget one never raised the other.
That’s exactly what it feels like now on General Hospital with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) being Dante Falconeri’s (Dominic Zamprogna) dad and Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) being Sam McCall’s (Kelly Monaco) mom. It’s also exactly what happened with Lani (Sal Stowers) and Abe, except it turns out he is not her father after all. And, Tamara is not her mother. None of it even makes sense.
Yes, we got why Paulina Price (Jackee Harry) felt she needed to give her baby girl away to her sister, Tamara, but why would Tamara tell an adult Lani that her real father was Abe Carver all the way in Salem, USA when Lani lived in Miami and thought Tamara’s husband was her father for years. That’s at least what we were told when Lani first came to town seeking out Abe. Why use Abe for a tale that Tamara really didn’t need to tell?
DOOL Spoilers – There’s A Way To Fix The Lani Price – Abe Carber Mess
And why ruin this beautiful relationship between Abe and Lani that the audience has grown to love just to make Paulina’s backstory more dramatic? Even if that was necessary for Paulina, we could have learned that Abe and Paulina once knew one another years ago and had a short fling while she was married to her abusive husband, making sure that Abe would remain Lani’s father.
It’s nice that Lani and Abe are trying to maintain their father-daughter relationship but at this point, it seems hollow as the audience feels gypped after investing in them for so long. Perhaps DOOL can retcon this story again and somehow make Abe into Lani’s real dad by using the long-ago fling idea? We can dream, right? Stay tuned to Days of Our Lives weekdays to see if there are more twists in this story.
