Jim Bob Duggar was heavily criticized for promoting his Senate run just days following his son Josh Duggar’s conviction for receiving and possessing child pornography.
The 33-year-old Josh Duggar was found guilting Thursday on charges of downloading and possessing child pornography and is currently facing up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Of the two charges, the former 19 Kids and Counting star is only being sentenced for the charge of possessing the material as the receiving charge is the lesser of the two.
Jim Bob Duggar, 56, went on Facebook Saturday to comment on his son’s verdict. Read on to find out why fans were disgusted by it.
It started out relatively harmless as the Counting On patriarch wrote, “As a father, I am heartbroken over the entire situation regarding my son, all who have been affected by it in any way, and those who have been harmed through CSAM.”
He went on to address the legal system, writing, “As an American, I respect our legal system and am thankful for those who serve in it.” Then he addressed his religion, saying, “As a Christian, I put all of my trust in Christ in both the joyful and difficult moments of life.”
This all seems very formal and above bar, but then he took the opportunity to make the post political, writing, “As your state senator, I promise to remain an unwavering conservative voice representing our great community in Little Rock.”
Fans quickly hit up the comment section with one calling the political plug, and Jim Bob himself, “gross.” Many used GIFs to show their disdain for the move and still another fan asked the Duggar patriarch to “Please stop talking.”
Still another commenter wrote, “FB needs a puke emoji,” and yet another called him a “monster.” Many of the GIFs referred to Jim Bob as “trash” and one fan went so far as to call Duggar a “rude, terrible person.” Over 700 people laughed at the post while nearly 540 people were angry.
Fans will recall that it was just last month Duggar announced his bid for the District 7 seat in the Arkansas State Senate. Even after being slammed for the bad timing of his Senate run the Counting On veteran announced that he wasn’t backing down, writing in a blog post, “They say because our family has faced problems we should shrink away—this is why they are often so relentlessly unkind, but we cannot sit on the sidelines during a time when one of America’s most important battles is taking place.”
Duggar’s Senate Facebook page has since been restricted to no comments which could be against Facebook rules for “public figures.”
It will be interesting to see how Jim Bob Duggar’s senate run turns out with all this flack it has to go through. Come back here often for more Duggar news and updates.
