The jury found Josh Duggar guilty of downloading and possessing child sex abuse images on his work computer in May 2019. According to Today, “There is no evidence that the allegations against Jana Duggar are related to his case.”
Josh Duggar now faces up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000 for each count when he’s sentenced. His legal team told NBC News that it intends to appeal the jury’s decision.
In Jana Duggar’s case the court docket identifies her address as being the same as one listed for Josh Duggar and several other people with the Duggar family name.
Josh and Jana Duggar were a part of the Duggar family’s TLC network reality show, “19 Kids and Counting.” The show followed the day to days lives of religious parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and their 19 children. The show had a run from 2008 to 2015.
Court records show that Jana Duggar pleaded not guilty via her attorney on Sept. 23. Court documents indicate that the alleged violation occurred Sept. 9. At this time her trial date by judge is scheduled for Jan. 10. To date the paperwork does not indicate that Jana and Josh’s legal cases are connected.
Representatives for the Duggar family did not immediately respond to Today for requests for information, nor did the attorney listed on the docket as Jana Duggar’s lawyer.
No details of Jana Duggar’s case are available because the case has been sealed according to Today. According to the outlet, “In a 2016 opinion that predates the allegation, Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge said details of a “child maltreatment investigation” can be withheld from the public in the interest of protecting the minor involved.”
According to Arkansas law, “Such a charge as the one faced by Jana Duggar would generally include the allegation that a defendant engaged “in conduct creating a substantial risk of serious harm to the physical or mental welfare of a person known by the actor to be a minor.”
According to the Arkansas Sentencing Commission’s punishment for such a charge, “Jana Duggar faces up to three months behind bars and a fine of up to $1,000 if convicted.”
