How old is Sonny on General Hospital?  Sonny Corinthos, currently portrayed by Maurice Benard, is the main protagonist in ABC’s daytime drama, General Hospital.

His father was Mike Corbin, who is now deceased.  Sonny Corinthos is portrayed on the soap as a manic-depressive mob boss who lives in the fictional New York city of Port Charles.

Though Sonny was originally scripted as an Italian, it was later revealed that he was merely raised in the Italian neighborhood of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and that he was not Italian but of Greek, Irish, and Cuban descent.

Sonny Corinthos originally became a storyline on General Hospital on August 13, 1993.

According to the show’s casting director, Mark Teschner, Maurice Benard was one of only a few actors that were ever considered for the part of Sonny Corinthos.

The character that only ever intended to last for six months on General Hospital.  Sonny was born, Michael Corinthos Jr., to Michael and Adela Corinthos.

Fans may recall that Sonny’s father abandoned their family when he was young and his mother began seeing another longtime General Hospital character, Trevor Lansing who was portrayed by actor Stephen Macht since 2007.

Macht and the character left the show two years later in 2009.  The baby was soon given up by his mother after had Trevor Lansing spent considerable time and effort to force Adela to choose between Sonny and the unborn child she shared with Trevor.

Adella later left Trevor and married New York police officer Deke Woods who would come to be known for being abusive to Sonny and his mother and even locking the seven-year-old in closets.

Later, in his teens, Sonny ends up apprenticing with local mobster Joe Scully thereby officially entering into the underworld.

General Hospital – Sonny Corinthos’s Birth Year Was Once Altered

Originally born on April 21, 1965, the character’s birth year was later amended to 1969, in 2012, when his age was listed on arrest records as 42.

This makes the popular and longstanding character 52 years old.  Sonny Corinthos has been a strong force on General Hospital for a very long time and that does not appear to be something that will change anytime soon.
