General Hospital viewers will remember that as Maxie visited Nathan West’s (Ryan Paevey) grave in a recent episode, Nina soon joined her. It was the third anniversary of Nathan’s death, which Peter had been complicit in. Then Britt joined them, and after talking about Nathan and Maxie pouring her heart out to the two of them about how she needed support for her upcoming marriage to Peter, they made a pact, started by Nina. Nina realized she had her family – Maxie and Britt. Britt, of course is Nina’s first cousin, as was Nathan, although he was raised in her mother’s home as her younger brother. Maxie became Nina’s cousin-in-law when she married Nathan, and Britt’s sister-in-law.
Now she was ready to marry her brother-in-law but she endured warnings from those who don’t trust him, and with good reason. Nina chose to support her in spite of Peter’s past. Britt did too, even though she certainly doesn’t trust Peter. She knows what it is to be a pariah because of parentage and Nina hasn’t always been the upstanding, successful woman she is now either. They made a pact to acknowledge that they are family, and to act like they are family. That may mean stepping up to protect Maxie from Peter without Maxie even realizing it, although it may be Britt who does most of the protecting!
As Maxie, Nina and Britt stood at Nathan’s grave, Peter strolled up to pay his respects as well. Britt wanted to know what he was doing at their brother’s grave! Maxie may not have appreciated Britt’s harsh tone, but in the end, if Heinrik had not come to Port Charles, Nathan may not have been killed. Maxie had been anxious to find out the family medical history on Nathan’s side, and Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) had claimed that Victor Cassadine (Thaao Penghlis) had been Nathan’s father, and Maxie had plucked one of Valentin Cassadine’s (James Patrick Stuart) hairs in an effort to check by DNA for any diseases that might run in the family – that’s how the truth about Nathan not being a Cassadine came out.
Liesl had wanted to protect Nathan from Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) and that is why she gave her baby boy to her sister, Nina’s mother to raise. Valentin thought of Peter as a son and always looked out for him, but even he is suspecting Peter of things. He and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) talked about Franco Baldwin’s (Roger Howarth) implanted memories from Drew Cain (Billy Miller) and realized Peter had been lying about knowing Drew from the past!
Valentin may share this information with Nina, whose “Crimson Magazine” office is only a couple of doors down from Peter’s “The Invader” office! When Nina realizes Peter may be as dangerous as her Aunt Liesl had thought he was, she, too, will want to keep an eye on Maxie as well as Britt! Ultimately, it may be Britt and Nina who will protect Maxie from Peter even if she doesn’t realize that is what they are doing!
