Lovatics and Arianators are about to get treated by pop music’s two A-listers in a collaboration that is coming soon, but possibly not as soon as some people would like.

The news of the collab was something that fans could look forward to after the recent heartbreaking documentary about Demi Lovato’s 2018 overdose that saw the singer opening up to the public and rarely holding anything back. The documentary was really hard to watch and a lot of her fans admitted to having cried and being shocked in conflicting measures.

On March 7, Grande shared a short video of her vocals on her Instagram Story, captioning it, “backgrounds on a song for a friend,” which Lovato reposted with a series of six-sneaky eyed emojis. This sparked suspicions about a possible collaboration between the two, and a fan DMed Lovato privately to enquire if the “last minute’’ collab she previously hinted at (which was first rumored to be with Noah Cyrus), was with Ariana. She simply replied the fan’s question with a smiley face emoji.

On Monday, Lovato revealed the release date and name of her upcoming seventh studio album on her socials. The album art was certainly her most colorful and stylistic one yet, with Lovato split into three parts, with each of herself merging into the other. The album’s name was revealed to be Dancing With the devil…The Art of Starting Over and it would contain 17 songs and 3 bonus tracks, which is the most songs she’s ever released on one album. It is also said to feature a blend of country, soul and 90s pop, even though the album is classified as pop.

Lovato later confirmed her collaboration with Grande in an interview with The New York Times ahead of her YouTube Originals documentary, Dancing With the Devil on March 16.

Demi Lovato revealed in her Dancing With the Devil documentary that when she was recovering from her overdose incident, she told her longtime manager that she only wanted to get back into music if everyone from her management team were replaced with new people. She had been formerly managed by Phil McIntyre since her teenage years, but she purposefully sought out Scooter Braun, who is currently managing both Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber. Even before Demi met up with Scooter, he had meticulously planned out how he would reject Lovato because he was simply “overwhelmed.”

But once he met Demi, he knew she wasn’t only in need of a manager but a friend as well and offered to be both for her. Lovato later admits that she felt she was a “kind of a liability” and that she was scared no one would be willing to work with her.

It was speculated at the time that Lovato may have sought out Scooter because he managed Grande, and she and Grande have been friends for almost a decade now, going back to 2011. Ever since then, the duo have been supportive of each other on social and off-social, enjoying a night-out, eating cake at birthday parties, and other fun stuff.

During Lovato’s 2018 overdose, Grande supported her friend on Twitter, writing “I love you @ddlovato,” and Grande’s mom, Joan, wrote a powerful statement about the situation.

So it’s only right that Ariana Grande would feature on what could be her most vulnerable record to date.
