As Deacon and Hope get to know one another better, they find they have many things in common in spite of Deacon not being able to raise Hope as she’s grown up. Longtime viewers of The Bold and The Beautiful know that Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) had been a major reason for Hope not being allowed to get to know her birth father in any real way, in spite of that Deacon does indeed seem much more redeemable than say, “Sheila Devil” Carter (Kimberlin Brown ) as Deacon calls her! In an article in Soap Opera Digest, portrayer Sean Kanan, who also appeared in the 1989 movie “The Karate Kid Part lll” says that both he and his television daughter trained with the same martial arts instructor years ago although they did not know each other back then. Annika has training in mixed martial arts and Sean has used martial arts on The Bold and The Beautiful as Deacon also at different times throughout his years on the daytime drama.

As they continue to practice their martial arts moves, their emotional guards come down as their physical guards go up, since that is all part of the game. They find it a great stress reliever as well, until someone interrupts their happy time – someone who really sets Hope off!
