Alec Baldwin continues to communicate with the public in the wake of the “Rust” film shooting that resulted in a tragic death. In his latest statement, the actor expressed gratitude to his supporters. But much as Baldwin might desire to halt any more publicity over the tragedy, some think that his repeated communications are a mistake.
The 63-year-old actor delivered his message via video, seeking to express his desires for the future while looking back at the past. But what Alec may not have anticipated: Social media’s reaction. Find out what Baldwin revealed and the social media response below.
Alec Baldwin Boasts ‘Hundreds Of Emails’ Supporting Him
Based on his holiday video message, Alec Baldwin feels pride in his “hundreds” of supporters in the wake of the “Rust” film tragedy, reported TMZ. The actor sought sympathy in describing the challenges he faced following the fatal shooting on his movie set.
“I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all the people who sent me such kind words and best wishes and strength and hope and prayers, thoughts and lots of encouragement. I got hundreds, hundreds of emails from friends, family and colleagues and people I haven’t heard from in quite a while to send me strength and good wishes and so forth. I’m really grateful to them,” stated Alec.
In addition, Baldwin described his desire to put the tragedy in the past. But he also noted that the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins will forever haunt him. “I’m looking forward to some aspects of this being behind me, of course. For everyone who is involved in this, it’ll never be behind us because someone died so tragically. I never lose sight of that, not a day goes by I don’t think about that.”
In addition, Alec admitted that he cares solely for his family. “It’s true, I only care about my wife and my kids and moving forward with my life and trying to get through a tough time, a really tough time.” But the challenges continue as TMZ also reports that the actor remains under the scrutiny of law officials in the “Rust” fatal shooting.
Social Media Slams Alec Baldwin Video Message
Alec Baldwin may have hoped to earn even more supporters with his video message. But Reddit’s entertainment community responded to that communication with a backlash. The majority pointed out that Baldwin has erred in his decision to spill all his feelings in the wake of the shooting death.
As one critic pointed out, “The clever way to respond to all of this is “out of respect for the victims and to not hinder any further investigations I’ll refrain from commenting until a court has decided on the matter.” The route he is currently on is pretty dumb. If you’re confident you are not to blame for anything, don’t comment any further.”
And others agreed. Several questioned why Baldwin has talked directly to the media and public rather than use a professional public relations company’s spokesperson. And others felt shocked by his communications. “It is astounding at how poorly he is handling this situation,” stated one critic. And another added, “Why is he still talking about this? He’s literally used this incident as an opportunity to be in the news every single day. Just let the grieving victims family go a day without reading about poor Alex Baldwin.”
