Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) believes he’s fine on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But everyone else disagrees.
Denial of a mental health issue makes Billy’s decision to walk out on Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) dangerous. She wants to help her true love but is unable to because he believes that Vickie’s attitude is the problem.
And so it seems as though ‘Villy’ is splitting again. It’s too soon to tell if they’re over because of a past history of rebounds. But fans of this couple know that there have also been many extended periods of separation and divorce.
Vickie actually wanted a different type of commitment this time. That was based on her feeling that past arrangements hadn’t worked, including various remarriages. So, she planned a commitment ceremony at Society.
Looking back now and in thinking about everything this couple has endured, love truly isn’t the question. Instead, it’s generally been Billy’s inability to remain committed, to any type of relationship, that’s so often dashed Vickie’s hopes that this time would be different.
Hardcore viewers know that Vickie can not be blamed, as Billy is trying to do, as even half the problem this time, which was mildly true in some past instances when ‘Villy’ was together.
Billy has this idea in his head that Vickie is holding him to an impossible standard. Whatever alternative personality he’s morphed into, due to the unhealed mental health issue that he’s denying, is driving the notion that Vickie is to blame.
Well, the above is just plain wrong. What exactly has Vickie done that she shouldn’t have? Nothing.
Billy has forgotten that Vickie was the person who Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson) ran to when Thompson’s character needed saving in the boathouse last summer. Vickie got through to Billy because she was and is his soul mate.
Vickie works long hours as the head of Newman Enterprises. So sometimes she asks that Billy watch their children, one of whom (Johnny Abbott, as played by Holden and Ryan Hare) is Billy’s child with Chelsea Newman (Melissa Claire Egan), who Vickie adopted. The other is Katie Abbot (Sienna Mercuri).
Vickie has also repeatedly defended Billy from countless periods of questioning, especially including from her father, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). Most importantly, Billy has devalued the depth and significance of Vickie’s love. He’s done so because he’s not stable and can’t see yesterday, today, or tomorrow.
The sun is never out in Billy’s film noir world. And it’s getting darker, which has Vickie feeling hopeless following this latest, very disturbing split.
