Will Princess Beatrice’s Wedding Be Postponed Because Of The Coronavirus?

British Royal News suggests that Princess Beatrice might have just received another blow to her wedding plans. That’s because there’s a very good chance that Beatrice and her fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi might be forced to postpone their nuptials because of the coronavirus outbreak. The couple was planning on tying the knot this spring with their closest friends and family, including her disgraced father, Prince Andrew. Here’s what you need to know.

Even though the wedding is set to take place at St James’s Palace in London, most of the wedding guest list will be from Edo’s native Italy. The reception will take place in Buckingham Palace and will be hosted by Queen Elizabeth. However, due to coronavirus fears, there’s a strong possibility that the couple might be forced to postpone their wedding until later in the year.

“The coronavirus has thrown a bit of a [wrench] in the works,” one insider said, according to Page Six. “Although there’s no suggestion that Italy will remain in lockdown until the end of May, obviously the whole thing does cast doubt over the guest list.”

If that weren’t enough, there are also reports that say Prince Philip, who will turn 99 in June, might skip the wedding altogether. He is reportedly in a state of self-imposed isolation at Queen Elizabeth’s country retreat, Sandringham. In addition, the Queen herself might stay in lockdown too, seeing how she is 93. Just this past week Her Majesty wore gloves to hand out medals and is also refraining from handshakes in public.

“If the coronavirus reaches Italian proportions in the UK, I seriously doubt the Duke would run the risk of traveling to London for Beatrice’s wedding,” royal author Phil Dampier said of the Duke of Edinburgh. “But if the coronavirus gets worse, I can’t imagine the palace powers-that-be will want her meeting and greeting thousands of people. Not at her age.”
