What happens If The Queen Never Returns To Her Normal Royal Duties?

It sounds incredible but some royal watchers are speculating that Queen Elizabeth may never return to her public duties following her current isolation at Windsor Castle. Like everyone else, the queen is isolating at home in order to observe the global precautions mandated by the current coronavirus pandemic.

According to royal watcher Richard Fitzwilliams, “Last year the Queen, now 94, carried out nearly 300 engagements. She has, since 2015, not undertaken long haul flights and Charles has represented her at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and has laid a wreath on her behalf at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.”

Will Her Majesty Ever Be Seen In Public Again?

This past Friday for the first time ever the queen’s VE Day speech was videotaped in isolation.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson told Insider, “The Queen continues to be busy and will follow appropriate advice on engagements.”

Many of the Queen’s royal duties can be done in private, including the signing of government documents and her weekly call with the Prime Minister.

How Will The Queen Respond Once The Isolation Period Is Lifted?

As the Queen stays at Windsor Castle with Prince Philip, her public duties remain unclear.
Buckingham Palace has canceled big events that were planned for the summer, including the Trooping the Colour parade and Princess Beatrice’s royal wedding.

According to The Sunday Times’ royal writer Roya Nikkhah, the Queen will withdraw from public life and continue to self-isolate at Windsor indefinitely. Additionally a royal source told Nikkhah that the queen has no royal engagements scheduled for the upcoming coming months.

One royal watcher Is Speculating On The Queen’s Chances Of Returning To Public Life

Fitzwilliams said, “At her age she is high risk and with no vaccine currently available, she will undoubtedly follow government guidelines and is therefore not scheduled to appear in the coming weeks, though this will undoubtedly depend on the progress made in combating this deadly pathogen.”

Meanwhile he sees senior royals, such as Prince Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton undertaking duties on her behalf.

“William and Kate have been extremely active and high profile since the onset of the pandemic, and their contribution to the mental health issues involved and to thanking the NHS has been marvelous,” Fitzwilliams said.

Thus far, William and Kate have used Zoom to video call midwives and healthcare experts. veterans on VE Day, and children of frontline workers.
