Viewers will recall that Deavan had some rather negative experiences with Jihoon’s family in season one. In episode five, Jihoon was hoping that he could get his parents to change their minds about Deavan but they seemed to have their minds and opinions made up. She had also talked about her immigration plans to South Korea. In episode six, as expected, Deavan got off to a rather rocky start with Jihoon’s parents when meeting them for the first time.
In episode seven, Deavan failed to impress Jihoon’s parents with a homecooked breakfast, and in episode eight she tried again to impress them by taking them out on the town in a tour of Las Vegas. In episode nine, Jihoon’s marriage proposal did not go as he planned it, and Deavan, pregnant with baby Taeyang in episode eleven told him about having to get the baby out early. She gave birth in episode twelve. In episode thirteen, Deavan was worried if Jihoon could support their new family.
However, in episode fifteen she moved to South Korea in spite of those concerns. Episode sixteen featured Deavan’s arrival. Episode sixteen brought surprises, or maybe that should be shocks, for Deavan as Jihoon confessed about his past, and in episode eighteen she found out the cause of his financial problems. The season ended with Deavan getting used to Korean culture in a traditional Korean wedding ceremony. According to Taeyang’s newborn photo shoot, he was born in October 2019 so these episodes were filmed a while back.
A few months ago, a Thanksgiving video was posted with the two of them and the children in Utah. This would put the baby around six weeks old when it was filmed and judging from other videos the couple put up around the same time, they were in the US together for a while.
However, they were also still experiencing some trust issues, especially Deavan concerning Jihoon because of his not being forthcoming about his past criminal charges and his not appearing to be mature enough to care for Deavan and her two children, Drascilla, a girl, from her previous relationship and of course their newborn son Taeyang. They did marry; but perhaps a trip back to the USA caused Deavan to have her doubts about moving back to South Korea knowing more about Korean culture and lifestyle when their traditional wedding took place.
South Korea, while not a primitive or third world country, can be a dangerous place to live at times with frequent threats of war reviving between North and South Korea and it’s a lot to think about for an American woman with two little ones! But perhaps baby Taeyang smoothed things over with her inlaws, so there is that!
