Vickie’s choice to stay with her parents at the Newman Ranch was wise. The children are mostly her responsibility due to the Villy breakup. Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) forced the latest relationship he’s had with Vickie to end. So, she needed to ensure that Johnny Abbott (Ryan and Holden Hare) and Katie Abbott (Sienna Mercuri) would be taken care of.
However, an aspect of Vickie’s own care is actually becoming an issue. Physically, she seems to be making steady progress. But her current mental health status, as part of the trauma she’s endured the past few years, isn’t good.
The J.T. Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill) arc was horrific for Vickie. The man she once loved, who is the father of their son, Reed Hellstrom (Tristan Lake Leabu), returned to Genoa City, Wisconsin. He hadn’t changed, noticeably.
Over the course of time, Luckinbill’s once-likable character projected a negative metamorphosis. He became a monster, viciously berating Victoria and even wrapping his hands around her neck.
J.T. was eventually killed by Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), or so she and the Girls Night In Gang, along with the audience, assumed. It was eventually revealed that J.T. survived and that an existing brain tumor caused him to act out of character.
Vickie was naturally very reluctant to trust Billy again. But he’d stood by her during the J.T. arc, fully stepping up to take care of their children.
The trust that Villy developed led to a ceremony being held at Society last year, where Vickie and Billy publicly proclaimed that they intended to be together. The lack of an actual wedding wasn’t Billy’s idea.
Vickie was hedging her bets. As it turned out, she was right. Billy shattered her heart recently by leaving their family and now, in expressing his love for Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan).
Viewers understand why Vickie would want to be in a familiar environment, where her parent’s protective arms are around her and the kids are safe. Choosing to stay indoors allows Vickie to keep Genoa City, Wisconsin, out.
Vickie is resilient and won’t stay down forever. But it appears as though she needs more than her parents love and support. So, Nikki’s suggestion to have Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) tap her psychology degree should prove wise.
