The terrible stabbing attack that Vickie Newman (Amelia Heinle) survived and is recovering from has created the need for an anticipated temporary replacement. So, Adam thought that he could offer assistance to his dad by volunteering to run the family business in his sister’s absence. But that assumption proved incorrect.
Adam has long believed that Nick, Vickie, and Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) are the chosen ones. He’s the outcast who Victor rejected.
Longtime Y&R fans know that Adam’s woe-is-me attitude doesn’t fit storyline history. Hope Newman (Signy Coleman) felt that she and Adam didn’t fit in Victor’s world. So she left Genoa City, Wisconsin, and returned to the farm in Kansas. Hope and Victor divorced, with Cliff Wilson (David Cowgill) later becoming her husband, who Adam, then still a child, though of as his father.
So, Victor’s choice of Nick to run the company fits Adam’s default whine. What he doesn’t seem to understand is that a response of humility would have gone a long way to impressing his dad.
Nick engaged in psychological torture when he created a Hollywood style J.T. Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill) mask. He wanted to throw his father off his game at that time in the plot and succeeded in doing so.
Digitally skipping ahead in plot time, Adam manipulated Victor’s medicine. That could have resulted in tragic consequences if Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) hadn’t realized what was happening. Victor then engaged in a death hoax that rattled Adam to his core, finally quashing his thirst for revenge.
Now, after Adam doesn’t get what he wants, a lash-out begins. That’s exactly why Victor didn’t tap him to run Newman.
Acting like he presents a good indicator of how Adam would have responded if everything didn’t go his way while sitting in Vickie’s chair.
Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) was a positive influence in convincing Adam to reestablish a relationship with his father. She’ll now play an influential role in either helping her revived soul mate to make this right, or revert to his old, flawed form.
Adam has often been unable to control himself where Victor or anything Newman is concerned. The nice young man he once was is gone, replaced by a man who acts like a child. Hope surely doesn’t approve from above, as Victor fills the role of Adam’s sole parent.
