Among the teased breaks let’s consider Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan), along with Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and Chance Chancellor’s (Donny Boaz) connections. The first friendship may have a personal disagreement, while the second would center on a criminal coverup.
Amanda won’t be open to Phyllis’ suggestions about avoiding personal involvement with Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) in this proposed friendship break. Philly was a dynamic couple at one time, though non-fans of that pairing would use a different adjective to describe what Phyllis and Billy were at one time.
When viewers last saw Amanda, she had agreed to go out with Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic). However, Morgan’s character had already developed feelings for Billy in recent months and was set to join Chancellor Industries’ new media division as its legal counsel, where Thompson’s character is the co-head, along with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil).
Phyllis and Amanda haven’t been friends for long, but their genuine bond was developing. Never one to be shy, Stafford’s character would surely offer her advice to Amanda about being leery of Billy, with resulting tension following.
Adam openly admitted that he killed the man who Chance was pursuing while working undercover in Las Vegas, Nevada. Adam’s uncharacteristic lack of discretion allowed Phyllis to record his comments, along with Chance’s.
The pressure Adam is applying to Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) threatens the Newman family and Newman Enterprises. But another problem also exists.
As viewers learned, the widow of the man Adam killed in self-defense has been asking questions about her husband, who she doesn’t realize is dead. Adam’s default mechanism is to look out for himself whenever he’s endangered. Grossman’s character considers Chance a friend and likely won’t ditch their friendship in order to save himself in this instance, as he’s already taken responsibility for keeping this issue contained.
But there likely will come a time in the plot when Chance’s actions, in not reporting the death, are exposed. That will create the potential for him to turn against Adam or vice versa.
Y&R is currently on course to resume production on July 13. Unless something changes, new scenes will begin recording that week.
If all goes well, soap fans should expect to see the first new episode in mid to late August, which would allow both projected plots to play out this fall.
