In the beginning, Elena was leaning more toward Nate than Devon. They had their medical profession in common and Devon was still grieving the death of his wife Hilary Hamilton (Mishael Morgan).

But as things turned out these two forged a bond and she actually helped him to turn a corner in his grief. For his part, he would have been crazy not to see what was right in front of him: an attractive and kind woman capable of treating him with respect.
