Daytime drama fans are very familiar with public service announcements (PSA’s). The soaps do a good job of spotlighting crucial, relevant, real-life events, turning them into reel-life drama that entertains and educates. Soaps are a means of escape from reality, a fun way to pass the time and invest in good storytelling. But they are also a great vehicle to convey important information that we might not be aware of or simply ignore.

Y&R is in the middle of telling one such story with Dina’s (Marla Adams) Alzheimer’s plot. A PSA topic is by definition sobering and serious, and it behooves the writers to choose a character that fans are invested in to tell the tale.
