What exactly is Adam planning? It seems sure to be something that goes against all things Newman. That assumption could have been challenged before the younger projection of Adam began addressing his older self, as the audience intently watched.

Knowing Adam he doesn’t just have one plan, he has multiple plans that are being designed to inflict the maximum amount of pain on his father and others who he’s come to foolishly loathe. Adam is so selfish that he’s blocked out the momentarily visible part of his conscience that speaks for what’s still good in him.
