The Young and the Restless: How Did Cassie Die On Y&R?

The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal that Cassie Newman (Camryn Grimes) was a character that fans loved to love. She was a sweet girl who endured a difficult early life but in the end came to find love and happiness. Which is why the audience protested long and loud when TPTB killed off the character.

Spoiler alert: this story has a happy ending of sorts, which we will get to in a minute. For now, let’s revisit the question, how did Cassie Newman die?

The Young and the Restless spoilers – How did Cassie Newman die?

Cassie came on the scene in 1997 and departed the canvas much too soon in 2005. Cassie died after a tragic car accident in which she was driving. Although Cassie was not yet 16 and did not have a driver’s license, she wound up driving so that Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei), who was drunk, would not get behind the wheel.

Cassie went to a party after lying to her parents Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) who would not have let her go as she was younger than the other kids.

When she saw Daniel passed out she took matters into her own good Samaritan hands and attempted to drive him home but she crashed.

The two are rushed to the hospital and Cassie ultimately remembers she was driving. She leaves the hospital to look for Daniel but collapses and hours later dies at the hospital with Nick and Sharon by her side.

Grimes returned to Y&R in 2014 as Mariah Copeland, Cassie’s twin–apparently Sharon had no idea she gave birth to a baby, which had soap fans in stitches.

At any rate, Mariah was taken without Sharon’s knowledge and given up for adoption. Long story short, Mariah came to town and originally was hostile toward Sharon but over time mother and daughter bonded. Today they have a wonderful relationship and Mariah has been instrumental in helping Sharon through her cancer battle.

Today Y&R played a flashback episode which showed Cassie in the hospital. It originally aired on May 5, 2005.
