While Hope is aware of Thomas’ history, her complete devotion to Douglas Forrester (Henry Joseph Samiri) continues to make her vulnerable to the type of psychological attacks that the audience has become familiar with. That’s exactly why Thomas set up the birthday party for Zoe Buckingham (Kiara Barnes) at Forrester Creations and then timed a romantic kiss so that his son and Hope would jointly witness it.
Vincent Walker (Joe LoCicero) was disappointed that his longtime friend was returning to playing manipulation games. He, like everyone else, doesn’t see why Thomas feels compelled to act this way.
Using Zoe is flat out wrong. What’s just as dishonest is betraying Hope’s trust. Thomas’ nonchalant attitude about using Douglas again is also despicable, underlining that mental health treatment is still sorely needed.
Atkinson’s extremely well-played character thinks it’s useful to frighten his own son. Thomas believes that Douglas will seek Hope’s consolation, which will then cause her to realize that the best remedy for everyone is for her to marry Thomas.
Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) is still imploring her husband to see reality. But Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) is convinced that Thomas is remorseful and is demonstrating recovery, which includes his efforts at FC and an apparently developing relationship with Zoe.
It must be said that Thomas did tell Vinny he would shift to Zoe if things don’t work out with Hope. But that open-ended promise seems doubtful. At what point will Thomas, who’s been obsessed with marrying Hope since last spring, choose to give up the fight?
Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) isn’t an option right now. Hope is still hurting from her voluntary ‘Lope’ exit. So, it’s possible to believe that she could persuade herself into thinking that Thomas’ persistence reflects an internal change.
Hope could remarry Thomas based on the belief that his concern for her and their mutual interest in Douglas will be enough to build an eventual relationship. Different than ‘Thope’ Part I, a ‘Thope’ sequel would imply that a second chance would generate a positive outcome.
Whether Hope brings herself to take that leap is reasonable for all fans to consider. Clearly, Brooke, Liam and others would oppose that decision. Yet Douglas’ well-being would likely not be the only reason cited in the choice to try again with Thomas.
It feels as though Hope actually cares about Thomas and with that may grow to love him. Although that feeling might already be forming.
