The presence of a mannequin in Thomas’ apartment, which was commissioned by Forrester Creations to resemble Hope, is proof of a problem. Thomas was not given permission to take fake Hope home. He withheld that plot point from Charlie Webber (Dick Christie) when questioned directly about the matter.
Liam is astounded that the real Hope dismisses Thomas’ actions, but also knows that she has an idealistic nature.
Hope’s choice, in believing that Thomas deserves special consideration, is actually allowing Atkinson’s character to remain in danger. That’s something Liam recognizes. He also knows that Thomas poses a threat to all who he has contact with, which includes his wife, her adopted son, Douglas Forrester (Henry Samiri), and others.
It’s understandable that Hope feels it’s okay to give Thomas the benefit of the doubt. She is the woman he chose to take the place of Douglas’ deceased mother, Caroline Spencer (Linsey Godfrey).
However, Liam’s experience with Thomas is far harsher. Those interactions have allowed Liam to develop a different perspective that, in this instance, as was true in certain others, is deeper than those who perceive Thomas differently.
Atkinson plays his part so well that he deserves to stand with the Daytime Emmy Award nominees, if not actually earn a statue next summer. His edition of Thomas evokes some of the great soap opera and movie villains.
Thomas did appear to be making progress since last spring when his faux plan to marry Zoe Buckingham (Kiara Barnes) was exposed. But viewers didn’t see him until late in the summer, due to the production shutdown.
The time jump that was incorporated into the show eventually revealed that Thomas isolated himself in Vincent Walker’s (Joe LoCicero) apartment and was intensely focused on creating a series of sketches for the Hope For The Future line. His resulting descent into a fantasy world is playing out now.
Hope doesn’t see a threat, she sees an artist who is trying to make amends. Liam believes or knows, that his wife has again opened herself up to Thomas’ manipulation.
Liam’s realized challenge is to make others see the truth. But Hope, John Finnegan (Tanner Novlan), Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), and other characters will need to look beyond the mask Thomas is wearing.
