It’s been claimed that Sophie, the Countess of Wessex is her mother-in-law’s favorite daughter-in-law. That is quite a tribute when your mother-in-law is the longest reigning monarch in history, Queen Elizabeth!
Both women have a fondness for military history and along the way the queen has imparted several words of wisdom to Sophie who no doubt has shared these pearls with her husband Prince Edward and their children Lady Louise Windsor, 16, and James, Viscount Severn, 12.
Luckily for the rest of us, Sophie has also shared her valuable lessons with Harper’s Bazaar and we have them here.
Royal Family News: Is Sophie really the Queen’s favorite daughter-in-law?
According to the Countess of Wessex the Queen has stressed to her the importance of not rushing through things. As a result, she says that she has opted for a slower pace of life saying, “It doesn’t matter how tired you are – carry on. In the early days, I used to rush around as quickly as I could, but when you observe the Queen, she does things in such a measured way, and I hope I’ve learnt to try not to bounce into the room, but do things in a slightly more elegant way.”
As an aside, Sophie and the queen are so close that Sophie has been known to go clothes shopping for her MIL!

Sophie also shared that Queen Elizabeth is a master of the art of speaking meaningfully. To this end Sophie has vowed to show a sincere interest in everyone she meets and try to make them feel special. “It’s hard to make people feel that the conversation you’ve had with them was worthwhile, but the Queen is very good at that – she makes everybody feel very special,” Sophie said.

Lastly, Sophie shares that she has learned the importance of being reliable from her mother-in-law.
She adds that the queen has a strong sense of duty thus, “The Queen would never let anybody down, and that means that you feel the same way. Because there’s that part of her which I’m sure is like the proverbial stick of rock: if you cut her, the word “service” would just run through her.” And there you have it, the lessons to live by according to Sophie and Elizabeth!
