Sophie Wessex Goes From Reluctant To Most Prominent Royal

This time last year there were very few people paying attention to Sophie, Countess of Wessex, let alone even knowing her name, but this year that has certainly changed. Not only is Prince Edward’s wife now in the spotlight thanks to her solid work ethic, but she’s also become a prominent member of the royal family as and someone who that the monarchy is counting on now more than ever before. Sophie Wessex Goes From Reluctant To Most Prominent Royal

In the new Channel 5 documentary, Edward and Sophie, The Reluctant Royals, the television special looks back at the couple’s courtship, engagement, wedding, and of course, where they are today. Apparently, Edward and Sophie were two members of the royal family who always loved being in the background as they preferred to focus on their royal engagements and public appearance more than their celebrity status. That of course has changed in recent months. Now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have filled a void within the royal family, the press has put a new spotlight on Sophia, making her the royal family’s new media darling.

After Edward and Sophie’s wedding, the Countess of Wessex fast became a very popular member of the royal family and someone who even Queen Elizabeth liked to spend time with. That’s because Sophie was someone who put more focus on her charity work and her patronages than what the media was saying about her on a daily basis.

Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke, explained in the documentary, “The Queen does not like royal members to attract attention. So with Sophie, she saw she’s definitely not attracting as much attention as other members of the Royal Family and I think the Queen really liked that.”
