Royal Family News: Princess Anne Receives Recognition For Inspiring A Disabled Teen During The Pandemic

British royal family news reveals that Princess Anne has just had a touching virtual engagement with a teen from East London who praised her for her inspiration during this challenging time. Her call was with 16-year-old Saihan Islam who has autism.

The disabled teen is associated with one of the many charities the Princess Royal supports, and he expressed his gratitude to her for listening as he related his lockdown experience.

Princess Anne Has A Reputation As One Of The Hardest-Working Members Of The Royal Family

Princess Anne has long enjoyed a reputation as one of the hardest-working members of her family and at the age of 70, she shows no signs of stopping, carrying out hundreds of engagements every year. This week she recognized her patronage of the disability charity Sense by speaking with the teen.

During their chat, Saihan told Princess Anne about the struggles that young disabled people have encountered as the coronavirus pandemic rages on across the world. At one point he discussed the difficulties that social isolation brings.

According to sense, one in two young adults report feeling lonely every day; this number raises to three in four among young disabled people. After his inspiring talk with Princess Anne, Saihan spoke out to thank her for her support saying, “This is a very challenging time. Sense has a huge, positive impact on me and other disabled people.”

“I really appreciate this opportunity to share my experiences with HRH The Princess Royal. It will show how much her support means to people like me. It will help others to stand up for their rights and make themselves heard.”

Sense Is A Group Which Supports Young People With Disabilities

Saihan also spoke about the significance of Sense’s community services, one of which matches young disabled people with volunteers who take the time to meet up in their local area and participate in fun activities.

“I hope all the work we have done together, and to be done in the future, will help change society’s views and bring about change,” he said. “Disability should be taken more seriously.”

Princess Royal has been a patron of Sense for 30 years. Earlier this year she wrote a letter to the group thanking frontline staff for their work with children and adults with complex disabilities. The demand for the group’s services increased in tandem with the pandemic and has moved to an online model.
