Royal Family News: Prince William And Kate Middleton’s Royal Train Trip Ripped For It’s ‘Obscene’ Cost

British royal family news divulges the ugly truth that the warm and fuzzy whistle-stop trip that gallant Prince William and Kate Middleton, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are on will cost an “obscene” amount detractors say. As the days roll on, someone new chimes in to diss what was meant to be a morale boosting venture, a way to cheer the country up and give a shout out to essential workers all across the land. What started as a big booyah is turning into an even bigger boo-boo.

The latest to rain on the royal parade is Graham Smith, chief executive of Republic, a group that sees no point in keeping the monarchy around. He told Newsweek, “Why are they taking the train?

The train in question is the Royal Train, an expensive, history laden means of transport ferrying the pair from here to there.

Not Everyone Is Happy To See Kate And William Travel Round The Country Right Now

Based on past trips, it’s estimated that Kate and Wills’ little adventure could cost $30,000 or more.

A slew of negative comments has been posted online about the wisdom of the pair traveling through a country on lockdown and even the Scottish First Minister has seemed to throw shade at the whole thing. On top of everything else, the trip has generated speculation about the couple’s sleeping arrangements both in the train and at home.

The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge Are Thanking Frontline Workers Coronavirus Pandemic Efforts

In Scotland and Wales they were accused of undermining public health advice against unnecessary journeys and some chafed that the couple are allowed to travel while they are not. According to Graham, “It’s just a slightly ridiculous mode of transport to have their own train in the first place. They could have gone up by car or taken a scheduled train which would have cost a fraction of that.”

William and Kate traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland for their first visit and met with frontline workers from the Scottish Ambulance Service, in Newbridge. They also made a series of stops in England and now are in Cardiff, Wales.

The Royals routinely take the Royal Train to Scotland and when Queen Elizabeth II visited Edinburgh in June 2019, it cost around $30,000 (£22,696) in public money.

At this point in the lockdown, Scotland allows cross-border, “travel for work or an activity associated with seeking employment, or to provide voluntary or charitable services, but only where that cannot be done from your home.”
