Royal Family News: Meghan Markle’s Heartache – Why The Palace Is Not Reacting

Meghan Markle certainly is not the first member of the royal family that has spoken out about their pregnancy loss. While the Duchess of Sussex has gotten a lot of attention for her op-ed in the New York Times, she has joined many other royal women in breaking their silence on miscarriage. However, Buckingham Palace has remained silent throughout the ordeal, as it does not want to break with their tradition of not commenting on personal matters. Here’s why.

British Royal News: Meghan Markle’s Heartache: Why The Palace Is Not Reacting

Even though other high-profiled members of the royal family such as Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter Zara Tindall and even Sophie, the Countess of Wessex have also publicly opened up about their heartache over losing from a child to miscarriage. What’s more, many other European royals such as Queen Fabiola of Belgium, Queen Sonja of Norway and Queen Noor of Jordan have also suffered through this great misfortune and have even spoken or written about their numbing experiences.

With that said though, if there’s anything that royal fans and critics alike have learned about Queen Elizabeth over the years, it’s that she does not like getting ‘too personal’ with the public. Whatever is meant to happen behind closed doors, remains closed doors. While the royal family certainly did grieve Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s loss in private, they are not a family to speak out about the pain in public. That’s not to say that Queen Elizabeth or Prince Charles have acted insensitive or unsupportive about the matter, but instead just feel that it is better to show their support in a much more intimate matter.

British Royal News: Meghan Markle Is Leading The Way

In her op-ed with the New York Times, Meghan wrote, “Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few. Some have bravely shared their stories; they have opened the door, knowing that when one person speaks truth, it gives license for all of us to do the same.” Clearly, the Duchess of Sussex wants to continue having this discussion in public, which is something no member of the British Royal Family has done before her. Times are clearly changing for the monarchy, and thankfully, without protest. That in itself is progress for the future.
