Royal Family News: Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Have Come A Long Way Since 2016

British royal family news reveals that royal watcher Omid Scobie loves to talk about Meghan Markle (who prefers you call her the Duchess of Sussex). So much so that he wrote a bio about her, with her help according to his book notes.

More recently he gushed about Meghan and her husband Prince Harry’s first Christmas way back in 2016. That was four years ago but apparently he retains the memory like it was yesterday. Maybe it’s part of his job description as her self-professed “soul mate?”

Scobie spilled all during a Q&A on Friday with Carolyn Durand, who cowrote the bio Finding Freedom with him, and CNN’s Max Foster. According to Scobie, Harry and Meghan’s first holiday season in London almost blew their cover as neither wanted anyone to know they were an item.

Their first Christmas together came after about six months of dating. No photos of them together had been published and they were largely avoiding the media. That almost changed however according to Scobie.

According To Scobie, one of the stories he didn’t include in Finding Freedom was the Markle’s first Christmas in London. “And obviously at the time, there was so much talk about their relationship, and the couple had actually—so they had gone out in London to buy their first Christmas tree together, and we later found out about that through one of the papers.”

“But what we didn’t know is that someone had actually taken photos of the couple, and this was going to, much to their sort of surprise, this was going to be probably the first pictures that we saw of them, but because it was so dark when they went shopping, those photos never saw the light of day, and they were able to enjoy a few more months of privacy beforehand.”

As it so happened, the first clear photos of Harry and Meghan together arrived the following year in February 2017.

Harry And Meghan Stayed Out Of The Limelight Early On

But the Christmas tree shopping story was given to Hello! in 2016 when a spokesperson for Pines and Needles in Battersea, London dished that they chose a Nordmann Fir for Harry’s Nottingham Cottage residence at Kensington Palace.

“They came in at about 8:30 p.m. … Prince Harry was with Meghan and hilariously the staff only recognized Meghan at first—they were so excited to have the girl from Suits there. It wasn’t particularly cold, but they were gloved and hatted out.” No doubt Meghan was thrilled to be recognized as the Suits girl!
