Royal Family News: COVID Kills Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Plans

British royal family news reveals that a tradition that has stood the test of time for the monarchy has fallen victim to the coronavirus pandemic. Police have revealed that for the first time in over three decades, William, Kate and other royals will not be attending the Christmas Day church service at Sandringham. William and Kate will not be present in church although they are spending the holiday period at their country home Anmer Hall located a mere two miles away.

Today Norfolk Police released a statement announcing that there will be no members of the Royal family present at the traditional service held annually at St. Mary Magdalene Church.

There Will Be No Royals At Church In Sandringham On Christmas Day for first time in 32 years

Police broke with protocol by making the announcement. They did so as a means of keeping crowds away from the church on Christmas Day due to coronavirus concerns.

Normally thousands of royal fans crowd into the area beside the church in order to see the Queen and her family attend the morning service.

The Norfolk Police statement read: “Members of the public and media are advised there will be no organised royal event at Sandringham this year. Members of the Royal Family will not be attending the usual Christmas Day service.”

Crowds Are Advised To Steer Clear Of The Christmas Day Church Service In Sandringham Due To The Risk Of Covid-19 Spread

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are spending Christmas at Windsor Castle instead of Sandringham. The Queen is typically driven to the service in her Bentley while her other family members walk a quarter of a mile to the church from Sandringham House. Last year Prince George and Princess Charlotte attended the service at the 18th century church for the first time.

The Sandringham Church website states that while the royals will not be attending the Christmas Day service, the event will be held with proper social distancing between worshippers and no singing is allowed.

A Long Cherished Royal Tradition Will Not Be Held This Year Du To Coronavirus

Nonetheless it is expected that only regular congregation members will be allowed inside and required to use hand sanitizer.

The royal family began the Christmas church tradition in 1988 when they moved their celebration to Norfolk due to Winsor Castle being rewired.
