According to some reports, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s financial situation could put the entire British Royal Family’s public image at risk. (Of course, some would say many things about the Sussexes have already damaged the Royal Family’s reputation.)
Still, the new claim is that Prince Harry and Meghan’s new whopper of a house in Santa Barbara, and its exorbitant cost could cause the duke and duchess to make hasty, unwise decisions in a frantic bid to recoup expenditures. Some fear this kind of panicky, snap decisions could allow the media and others to cast Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as well as the rest of the Monarchy in a bad light.
As Russell Myers, the royal editor at The Daily Mirror stated on Pod Save the Queen recently, “You can bet your bottom dollar that people in the Palace are getting a bit nervous about this. Because what it means is that the nervousness that had previously existed about what sort of corporate deals they will be doing, what sort of sponsorships, what sort of tie-ins they would be doing with big brands to earn money in order to facilitate this fabulously exclusive lifestyle they’ve created for themselves, that nervousness is very real indeed.”
Mr. Myers brought the entire point home when he noted, “They (Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) have obviously been popping up on Zoom calls, speaking about civil rights and what have you… well, that isn’t going to bring in the cold hard cash that they need to live.”
Meghan And Prince Harry’s New House Could Cost Them
Remember that Meghan and Prince Harry’s new house cost about $14.5 Million. Every single month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex must pay in the neighborhood of $50,000 on their mortgage. Sure, the Sussexes are multi-millionaires, but remember that Meghan Markle and Harry haven’t earned a penny since they left their duties as senior members of The Firm behind. That’s sure to cause a lot of pressure on Prince Harry and Meghan because as it stands, the payments for their new property are coming out of what’s sure to be Harry’s inheritance.
In addition to the fact that Prince Harry hasn’t attempted to gain U.S. citizenship or a U.S. Green Card (which means he can’t legally work inside The United States), there isn’t a market for after-dinner speaking right now. In turn, that means that the deal Prince Harry and Meghan signed with the New York-based Harry Walker Agency for celebrity speaking engagements isn’t doing a the thing for them financially.
Thus, many believe that Meghan Markle and Harry may make fast decisions that will compromise the Royal brand and cause the masses to view Buckingham Palace negatively. Of course, most agree that nobody truly blames Queen Elizabeth or the rest of the senior royals for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s behavior.
Harry and Meghan Should Have Paid Off Frogmore First
Even without the added stress of huge mortgage payments on a luxurious estate in an exclusive area of Santa Barbara, most feel that Prince Harry and Meghan shamed themselves by not repaying in full the cost of Frogmore Cottage’s renovations.
Recall that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were given the estate by Queen Elizabeth as a wedding present. However, Harry and Meghan Markle quickly decided that everything inside the place needed to change. Therefore, Meghan and her princely husband chose to spend millions in taxpayer funds to renovate the place. As part of their Megxit deal, Prince Harry and Meghan agreed to repay all of Frogmore

Cottage’s Renovation Costs.
However, the duke and duchess haven’t repaid the costs as promised, yet Prince Harry and Meghan are over in California spending as if Harry’s inheritance was as abundant as water.
Mr. Myers commented on this as well when he stated flatly that, “ certainly, if you’ve got a mortgage that’s knocking on $8million, well that needs to be paid and, of course, they have a few million in the bank but they are going to have to earn a living and to seek this financial freedom that they keep speaking about … and would they ever be in a situation when their resources are dwindling,
Prince Charles stops funding them in about six months’ time, and they have to keep signing endorsement deals and sponsorship deals to stay afloat ‒ and what does that mean for the actual royal brand?”
