Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Can’t Help Inserting Themselves Where They Don’t Belong

Whether or not anyone wants to hear them prattle on about the election in couched terms and veiled innuendo, nor whether or not they are allowed to do so given their “royal” status, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have gone and done it on national television in prime time.

Last night during an ABC broadcast of Time’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people, the pair veered out of their lane to lecture the American public on why it’s important to vote.

As if we didn’t know that.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Talk About Voting And Misinformation

Let’s make one thing clear: Harry and Meghan weren’t actually on Time’s list of the 100 most influential people. So what were they doing on the show?

Some would say to state the obvious. “Every four years we are told the same thing, that this is the most important election of our lifetime,” intoned Markle. “But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter because you do and you deserve to be heard.”

It’s against protocol for members of the royal family to get involved in politics, but that didn’t stop the pair who were introduced as the “Duke and Duchess of Sussex.” They insist on having it their way every day, something that will come back to bite them eventually. All bratty kids know this in their heart of hearts.

The Once Senior Royals Have Become Increasingly Vocal About Politics

If she votes Markle will make history as the first British royal family member to vote. In August, Markle told Marie Claire that she plans to do doing just that in the 2020 election. “I know what it’s like to have a voice, and also what it’s like to feel voiceless,” she said. “I also know that so many men and women have put their lives on the line for us to be heard. And that opportunity, that fundamental right, is in our ability to exercise our right to vote and to make all of our voices heard.”

Recently she had a big photo op with Gloria Steinem who later spilled that the two of them sat at her table and cold-called voters. “We sat at the dining room table where I am right now,” Steinem told Access Hollywood. “And cold-called voters and said ‘Hello, I’m Meg’ and ‘Hello, I’m Gloria’ and ‘Are you going to vote?’”

Steinem failed to say how exactly those private citizens responded to being cold-called by a couple of complete strangers—maybe their efforts have done nothing more than earning them a spot on California’s Do Not Call list?
