Home and Away News: Show Shuts Down Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

It’s been confirmed. “Home and Away” got shut down as the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc not only in Australia but in other parts of the world. The announcement came after the show halted its production over the weekend and Channel 7 plans to replace with a news programme for the next two weeks.

“Home And Away will be off air from tonight while 7NEWS keeps the nation informed with The Latest, nightly at 7pm,” the show said on its official Instagram page.

But viewers don’t have to worry since it’s seems like it’s all just a matter of scheduling. The show films scenes six months in advance and that means if the sudser’s been taken off the air, it still has enough episodes prepared once the network orders the show’s resumption.

“Home and Away’s” official Instagram account posted, “We will be back. We are in this together and we will get through this together,” it continued.

“Stay safe and healthy. Love from all at Home and Away,” it added.

Home and Away Halts Production

A Seven Studios spokesperson explained last Sunday its decision to halt the soap’s production. Filming was shut down due to “increasing logistical hurdles.”

“It confirmed that no cast or crew had tested positive for COVID-19, but that the decision was made due to the increasing logistical hurdles related to the COVID-19 situation,” the spokesperson added.

Fans React To Home and Away’s Shut Down

“Home and Away” is Australia’s longest-running drama series. It has been on the air for more than 30 years and the Seven Network’s move to halt its production was a historic move in the country’s TV industry.

The series will be off-air temporarily to make way for increased coverage of the coronavirus pandemic. However, not all fans were pleased with the decision.

“People watch TV shows to escape from reality and want a break from coronavirus news,” one fan said.

“We hear about it all day and night, we need Home And Away to escape,” another fan commented.

The popular Australian soap will be replaced by “Young Sheldon.” Aside from that, the COVID-19 health problem also curtailed “Have You Been Paying Attention” along with “Fair Go” and reality series “Border Patrol.” Additionally, “The Bachelorette: The Final Rose” won’t be airing next Tuesday as planned. It’s still in post-production and there’s no news yet as to when it’ll resume.
