Royal Family

Here’s Who Thinks Sophie, Countess Of Wessex Is A Drama Queen

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and Prince Edward have enjoyed a long and by all accounts happy marriage. In the beginning, they were no strangers to the kind of drama that seems to swirl around the royals. But the controversy over their outside careers came and went as they settled in to do royal work and tend to their family.

Now some are saying that Sophie is bringing the drama all over again—but in a good way. What has got royal tongues wagging about this 55-year old mother of two who has heretofore been content to remain mostly in the background?

Sophie And Edward Are One Of The Longest Married Modern Royal Couples

Sophie and Prince Edward have been married since 1999 after first dating in 1993. Each is working senior members of the Royal Family which requires them to attend engagements and often speak at events. Now a royal expert is talking about Sophie’s speaking style and what it reveals about her role in the family.

It should be stated upfront that Sophie worked in public relations before she married the Prince. In other words, she knows her way around talking points, she’s been taught persuasive techniques and how to appeal for whatever it is she’s trawling for.

But she has also likely had training on giving royal speeches, a whole different animal, as well.

Body language expert Judi James told Express.co.uk, “Sophie’s background was in media and she can also deliver a mean corporate speaking style. Taking over the Duke of Edinburgh’s duties for a speech at the CMI she began in a similar understated style before going what she called ‘off-piste’.”

Sophie Has Taken On Duties From Her Retired Father-In-Law, Prince Philip

This means she mixed up the script to add in some direct ad-libs and stories and juiced up the drama and humor that she would have avoided if she were at the palace with the Queen according to the expert.

The expert assessed that “The warmth was still there but her tone also became more hard-hitting as she spoke about gender equality. This time we can see dramatic pauses, a more chatty tone as she told a story about speaking to a board room full of men. “Also a lower and more authoritative vocal tone that created empathy with her audience of business leaders.”

The expert also stated that Sophie does not seem to read from a script which helps to resonate with her audience.
