Although some GH viewers may agree that Nina had it coming when Maxie stormed out of her office, others might feel just a touch of sympathy for the head of Crimson Magazine. After all, even though she’s basically ignored all the amazing things Maxie has done for her over the years when confronted with that fact, Nina repented real fast.
In fact, it appeared that Nina was ready to bend over backward to accommodate Maxie’s demands and actually agreed not only to increase Maxie’s salary, but to also give her a new title, potentially a new office, and a host of other perks that befit top executives.
However, as everyone knows at this point, Nina’s contrite effort to make things right with Maxie were shot to pieces after Jax Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) replied with a very succinct “No,” to Nina’s budget proposals. Additionally, JAX didn’t want there to be any appearance of impropriety should anyone point out that he and Nina are not only the top executives in the company, but they’re also engaged in a sexual relationship. Any impression of a quid pro quo was absolutely unacceptable in Jax’s eyes. Thus, no salary increase for Maxie.
Of course, GH viewers can understand Maxie’s outrage when, after agreeing to a promotion along with a salary increase, Nina jerked the rug back out from under Maxie’s feet. Maxie is certainly not the only person to make a hasty decision to quit an organization when they’ve felt unappreciated (or lied to). Even after Nina and Jax both tried to calm the situation and get Maxie to reconsider, it was apparent that her hurt feelings were going to win the argument.
Some have argued that at this point, Nina could have done a lot more to keep Maxie from leaving. Since Crimson’s budget is under her purview, she could have moved budgetary line items around. She could have cut from here and added to there if keeping Maxie was really a priority. However, she didn’t do that. Instead, she wanted to add money to the overall budget. It’s no wonder Jax said no! (In addition to the reasons, he himself gave.)
If that didn’t work, others have opined that perhaps Nina could simply have dug into her own wealth. After all, she was the recipient of a very nice inheritance. Nina could have used her own money to make up the difference between Maxie’s current salary and her desired raise. (This would not need to be a permanent arrangement either. It would need to last long enough to redo Crimson’s budget for the next year.)
Regardless, if Maxie chooses to go along with Lucy Coe, it may be very hard indeed to get her back. Right now, Maxie is angry. If Lucy offers a salary that’s in line with Maxie’s desires, and she gives Maxie the decision making power she craves, Nina just might see Maxie becoming an actual rival.
Whether Nina can seduce Maxie away from the deal Lucy is offering her remains to be seen. If she cannot, GH viewers may see Nina and Maxie’s friendship go from bad to worse in short order.
