While she absolutely did kill Shiloh, whether it was actually self-defense is questionable because Sam herself told Jason that she knew Jason could take care of himself. She killed Shiloh to get vengeance for all the people he had hurt, including her younger sister Kristina Davis-Corinthos (Lexi Ainsworth), who had because of a member of Shiloh’s cult.
But Shiloh was in jail, and Peter August (Wes Ramsey) broke him out. Peter faked evidence that made it look like it was Sam who helped Shiloh escape from Pentonville just so she could kill him. So Sam was found guilty of manslaughter and was to serve two years in prison.
Sam spent a few months in prison but was home and on parole by Christmas. She only had to serve a fraction of her time and she was reunited with her children and at first Jason. But once Sam met her parole office, it was made quite clear to Sam that Jason is a former felon, she cannot spend any time with him or she will go back to Pentonville.
At first, Sam suggested that she and Jason just sneak around. But cooler heads prevailed and they looked for another way to see each other legally. Jason and Sam made a deal with Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) to find evidence against Peter. But Peter was well ahead of them and had someone even higher up than Robert cancel their arrangement.
When that fell through, Sam decided to get some sort of leverage on her Parole Officer, in the hopes of blackmailing her to ease her restrictions. And while Sam and Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) found that she has had an affair, it seemed like the plan might work. But Sam P.O. caught Spinelli and is now planning to be even tougher on Sam.
Sam really did commit manslaughter by her own words to Jason. She received jail time and only had to spend a fraction of that sentence behind bars. And while it is certainly difficult not to be able to be around the love of her life, she really should be grateful to be free. Perhaps now she will accept that she can’t see Jason for two years when her parole ends. She has her children and she has her freedom, perhaps, for now, Sam should be satisfied with that.
Is Sam fighting a losing battle? Should she just be thankful she’s out of prison? Or should she keep looking for ways around her parole? Will she end up back in Pentonville?
