General Hospital viewers will recall that Neil and Alexis were observed making out in New York City, outside his hotel room, and then entering the room by Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) who was on her way back to Port Charles to take an ob-gyn job at General Hospital. She didn’t stay very long, but long enough to have a short affair with Alexis’ ex-husband Julian Jerome (William DeVry) and tell him what she saw in New York after she had figured out where she had seen Neil before.
She also bolted and found another job in Boston once she realized Julian has a horrible temper and a huge torch for Alexis (as far as she was concerned) after he rushed to General Hospital and started to beat up Neil right in front of Alexis, Dr. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) and in earshot of any General Hospital staff who might have been nearby, and it got loud! Apparently, a whistleblower heard everything and not only reported Neil to the medical board but also reported Alexis to the bar association unless it was someone on the medical board who reported Alexis.
So both of them are in trouble and neither may have a job, as well as possibly being broke once they spend all of their money on legal fees! At least Alexis doesn’t have a house payment – that was a gift from Julian after her house was destroyed by a bomb and subsequent fire a few years back when they were having problems with Mickey Diamond (Nick Chinlund). Julian had her lake house replaced with an even nicer – and more secure – one.
Longtime General Hospital viewers will recall that Alexis was forbidden to practice law once before and it took a lot of struggle for her to get her law license back; this was because of her alcoholism. She had to stay sober for over a year to regain her law license, and since this was only four or five years ago, this could bear on the current and much worse situation of having perjured herself before the medical board when she and Neil were there to get his medical license back.
Alexis also had lost her law license when she hit Kiefer Bauer (Christian Alexander) while she was on community service, for a few months. However, perjury is much more serious than either alcoholism or community service – perjury in the first degree is a serious crime. The penalty for a perjury conviction is that you could be sent to prison for up to 7 years and you could be required to pay a substantial fine in the state of New York.
Whether perjury in an actual court or to a medical board is different, may not matter to the bar association because it is a matter of ethics. Neil and Alexis will deal with the uncomfortable question in future episodes of GH!
