As Gh viewers know who have been keeping up with what’s been going on in Alexis’s life, the attorney got an emergency phone call from Sam. During the call, in which Sam begged for help, Alexis found out that Sam’s parole officer was holding Sam and her bestie, Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson). Of course, Alexis headed out immediately to diffuse the situation.
Upon arrival at the seedy bar where Dolores Maloney (Andi Chapman) was holding the two wayward private detectives, Alexis did her best to get Sam and Spinelli out of trouble. GH fans know that Alexis probably did her best, but while successful in freeing Sam and Spinelli from their immediate predicament, Sam felt she didn’t go nearly far enough.
GH viewers might have cringed when Sam became exceedingly angry following the departure of Dolores Maloney. Sam said some really harsh, hurtful things to Alexis. For example, she accused Alexis, saying “I don’t know what happened to you. It’s not the drinking and it’s not Julian. It’s you. You’ve become this pushover who plays by the rules and refuses to fight … what about Neil? Do you feel a connection to him? Does he make you happy? Does it feel good to be around him? Then why the hell didn’t you fight for him?”
Clearly, Sam wasn’t pulling her punches. The conversation was brutal and it left Alexis more than emotionally bruised and battered. In fact, even when Sam came back a little later and was genuinely sorry for some of the things she’d said, Alexis couldn’t take it. She asked Sam to give her some time. Alexis felt that she’d be able to get over it and forgive Sam (after all, that’s what parents do for their kids), she still needed some space.
Seeing as Dr. Neil Byrne (Joe Flanigan) was back at General Hospital and Alexis didn’t have anyone to lean on for emotional support, some GH fans might excuse her next actions. After Sam and Spinelli left, Alexis found herself alone at the bar and the bartender (of course) sidled up to the bar and offered her a shot of vodka. It was an obvious question for Alexis. As an alcoholic, would she succumb to the temptation to drown her immediate heartache or would she be strong enough to continue to say “no” to the booze?
As GH fans know, Alexis couldn’t handle it and she took the shot. Now, while some may feel sorry for Alexis, at this point some may also agree that Sam may have had some valid points. Everyone knows that Alexis has strong feelings for Neil. Is Alexis really so broken and emotionally scattered that she’s willing to lose a man that just seems so right for her? And, what about how she handled the entire issue with Dolores Maloney? Alexis is a badass lawyer right? Couldn’t she have aggressively gone after the parole officer when it seemed, as Sam suggested, that the woman was practicing extortion herself?
One thing is certain, while some of the things Sam said might have been uncalled for, other more legitimate accusations she made are now issues that Alexis shouldn’t ignore. Instead of trying to kill the emotional pain she’s experiencing, maybe Alexis really ought to be taking some time to reflect.
