Many GH fans can imagine Lulu’s article on the evil Cyrus Renault coming to Port Charles readers with a headline like, “Cyrus Renault, Meticulous Investor, Charismatic Figure, and Generous Campaign Donor, Out of Pentonville after DEA Frame-Job.”
Of course, GH fans know that Cyrus met up with Lulu for what she hoped would be an in-depth look into a man who had been sent to prison for crimes he (supposedly) didn’t commit. From Cyrus’s side, viewers know that he took the opportunity to get his name in the media as a man who had been exonerated of wrongdoing. For Cyrus, Lulu’s article was a PR piece … it was damage control. It was a chance for Cyrus to reframe the narrative surrounding his decision to stay in Port Charles. Notorious drug runner? No! Eclectic businessman.
GH viewers know that Cyrus showed up at the Metro Court only to be rudely greeted by Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright). She wasn’t going to allow him to sit at a table until Lulu showed up and told Carly that she had invited him there for an interview for a piece to be published in The Invader.
After the two sat at their table, Lulu let Cyrus know that she believed she could smooth things over with Carly, although it would probably be a different thing altogether with Carly’s husband, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Of course, Cyrus let Lulu know that he believed that even with Sonny, he had acted in good faith.
Cyrus told Lulu that he had reached out to Sonny, “one businessman to another,” but that Sonny wasn’t interested. Lulu rightly stood up for Sonny, saying that she had always found Sonny to be a reasonable man. It was at that moment that Cyrus took the opportunity to segue into a speech about his innocence. He told Lulu that Sonny had been misled by Cyrus’s “wrongful conviction.”
Now, GH fans know that Cyrus plans to stay in Port Charles. This is most likely because Cyrus isn’t finished making those who put him behind bars, suffer. Namely, Cyrus isn’t finished humiliating and destroying the life of Port Charles police commissioner, Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry). As GH viewers know, Jordan used to be Cyrus’s “right-hand woman” who ultimately betrayed him. Cyrus obviously wants more revenge than he has already taken.
With that said, in order to move about freely (as freely as possible) in Port Charles, Cyrus wants everyone to believe that corrupt members of law enforcement manufactured evidence to put him in prison. Now, however, Cyrus plans to put the past behind him. Cyrus is a man who lives in the present.
Now that he’s free in Port Charles, Cyrus plans to make a fresh start as an investor. As an investor, Cyrus puts his money into whatever catches his interest and that makes him a profit … and of course, GH fans know that Cyrus plans to spread his influence around and “invest” in Laura Spencer’s (Genie Francis) mayoral reelection campaign. No corruption there ….
