Although it looks like Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) are bound and determined to keep Brando under their “protection” in Port Charles, one might as well ask if “protection” equals “keep an eye on.”
After all, it seems that Brando can’t go anywhere or do anything without the express approval of the Corinthos family. In that case, it’s no wonder Brando is chaffing at his circumstances. It’s like Brando’s prisoner!
GH fans may recall that everything started when Brando saved Carly’s life during an assassination attempt by goons sent by drug kingpin, Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober). Out of an abundance of gratitude (apparently), Sonny set Brando up with the resources he needed to start a business in Port Charles.
Namely, Sonny handed over the keys to a mechanic’s garage. Brando’s got everything necessary to essentially start a new life. However, none of this is something that Brando professes that he wants.
Brando’s been uber clear about his desire to return to Illinois and Chicago. After all, Brando has a life there! Gh viewers may agree that there’s a problem here. It’s not just that the Corinthos family is treating Brando like a child (because they are). He’s a grown man and ought to be able to take care of himself. If Brando wants to head back to Chicago and face any risks or potential blowback from whoever tried to kill Carly, then why don’t the Corinthos’s let him? Why is Sonny’s family making all of Brando’s decisions for him?
No, another issue is Brando’s family and friends. Where are they? Surely they can’t all be groovy with Brando being out of touch and out of their lives. Right? Surely Brando’s friends and family might begin to question his lengthy absence. What happens when Brando’s friends decide to show up in Port Charles and begin urging him to come back to Chicago?
What’s Brando going to tell them? “Sorry guys, my life in Port Charles is so much better than it was in Chicago. I’ve been given an offer I just can’t refuse.” Is Brando going to lie to everyone he knows and loves?
Gh viewers may agree that a more likely scenario if Brando is simply an ordinary guy who did an extraordinary thing in saving Carly’s life, is that Brando will get fed up with the Corinthos family’s demands and he’ll defy them all. (Who can blame him?)
Some questions that arise from this scenario are whether Brando might not just get those who care about him to aid in drafting a plan of escape. It’s not likely that Brando would go to the police for help. After all, he just got out of prison. At least, that’s his story for now.
(Of course, if some rumors are true and Brando is actually an undercover cop, DEA agent, or FBI agent, calling the police for help would make total sense.) Another question is if Brando does, indeed, look for help from his friends and family back in Chicago, what form will that help take? As someone who just got out of prison, what kind of connections or friends might Brando have at this point? Is it possible that he might have an association with Chicago based mobsters?
Neither Sonny nor Jason really know anything about Brando except what he’s told them. Jason might be a mob enforcer, but what if Brando is associated with people who are just as dangerous? The bottom line is that Sonny and Jason ought to be very careful. Without knowing more and digging into Brando’s background, his presence just might be a Trojan Horse that could end up harming Sonny and his family in more ways than one!
