BBC Eastenders spoilers confirm that Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) kills his wife during another brutal beating. Viewers have watched Gray control and abuse his wife ever since they were introduced on-screen. The control and abuse have gotten worse and fans wondered if Chantelle ever would take the children and leave. Previously, it was confirmed that she would decide that she had enough. Unfortunately, she doesn’t get a happy ending.

Chantelle Atkins Makes Escape Plan

Eastenders spoilers reveal that Chantelle makes some realizations while trapped in lockdown with her abusive husband. She makes an escape plan and seeks out a divorce attorney. However, she doesn’t realize how expensive lawyers are and turns to Kheerat Panesar (Jaz Deol) for financial assistance. Unfortunately, he says no because of his own dire money situation.

In the meantime, Gray notices adverts on the computer for divorce lawyers and has installed a tracking app on Chantelle’s phone.

According to Digital Spy, it is confirmed that Gray will fly into another rage and viciously beat Chantelle. Only this time, the wife and mother do not survive. She dies from her injuries, which will be devastating and traumatic for viewers.

Why Domestic Violence Story Ends This Way

As for why Eastenders planned Chantelle’s death in the domestic violence storyline, it is explained that it’s to show the reality of abuse. The soap worked with organizations when writing this storyline. Women’s Aid and Refuge is one of those charities and was consulted closely regarding scripts. Executive producer Jon Sen explained,

“Being able to shed light on the realities of what goes on behind closed doors has never been more crucial given the harrowing statistics as a result of the current pandemic, and hopefully Chantelle’s story will encourage people to speak out to someone they trust and get the support that they need.”

Plummer added that she hopes that viewers seeing Chantelle’s story will save lives. The actress said,

I’ve known it wasn’t going to end well for Chantelle for a while now and although it was a shock to find out her fate, far too many men and women suffer in silence so I hope that by raising awareness we can ultimately save lives.”
