Probably as a result of Will Horton (Chandler Massey) having questioned her about the night Adrienne died and asking if she remembered anything, Maggie starts having some flashbacks and flashes of memories – incomplete memories, and Maggie is very confused as to what these are. All she knows is that they are very disturbing and unsettling!
However, gradually, she starts to remember a little more and the memories become more complete – in the back of her mind, she realizes that she must have gone driving drunk and must have been there the night that Adrienne died. If she wasn’t why would she be starting to remember Adrienne’s car, and if she wasn’t driving her car, why would she remember seeing Adrienne’s car and being on that same road if she wasn’t really there?
Maggie has no problems remembering what happened before, earlier in the day; she remembers that her daughter Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) went into labor, and she was going to take her to Salem University Hospital but then her oldest daughter, Summer Townsend (Marie Wilson) unexpectedly dropped in and Adrienne took Sarah to the hospital instead. Summer had really upset her, and she had brought a bottle of liquor with her and wanted Maggie to share it with her!
Summer was a little tipsy when she showed up at the door, and full of anger at her mother, blaming Maggie for her own alcoholism that had now resulted in liver failure, meaning she was dying, and would not be eligible for a liver transplant because of her alcoholism! Maggie had told Summer she would help her or at least try to help her, and Summer had bitterly refused and then turned around and left, leaving the bottle of liquor she had brought for the two of them to share!
Maggie recalls being tempted by the liquor and trying to call Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) for help since he is her go-to person to call if she’s tempted to drink but only getting voice mail. Of course, she found out later that Brady couldn’t answer the phone because he was already at the hospital in the maternity room with Kristen DiMera, (Stacy Haiduk) who had also gone into labor that day.
Maggie is horrified when she remembers some more of that night – and that she did start drinking from the bottle that Summer had left. She remembers taking the bottle and getting into her car, intending to go to the hospital to meet Sarah in the maternity ward, and worse yet, she remembers a car that could have been Adrienne’s swerving to avoid her, and she swerved as well and wound up stopped on the shoulder of the road! She MUST have been the one who killed Adrienne, and she’s got to make it right!
