Actress Martha Madison has a special message to viewers and explains why it was so important to her that the couple have their happily ever after.

DOOL spoilers reveal that there is a long history of fans shipping “Shelle.” Shawn and Belle have been together on and off since high school. They have gone through paternity bombshells, a child being kidnapped, Jan Spears (Heather Lindell) keeping Shawn in a cage, Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson), and everything in between. They have also been married before and gotten divorced, only to find themselves in each other’s arms again.

Next week, we are going to see Shawn and Belle finally get married during the Christmas holidays. It is a surprise proposal, but not by Belle like it usually is. For the first time, it’s Shawn that asks Belle for her hand in marriage. No planning is necessary because they still have everything from the previous wedding. The only thing that isn’t being used is the wedding dress and the humongous veil.

Even this latest wedding is interrupted by Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) calling Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall). Belle goes into a bit of a frenzied, angry panic when Marlena nearly answers the phone. However, it all turns out to be okay and “Shelle” do get to finish their wedding ceremony.

In the new issue of Soap Opera Digest, Madison explained why this wedding was so important to her. She said, “…they’ve never really had Shawn and Belle happy together — there’s always been another person or issue separating them, or infidelity. There’s always been something looming over them, so our Shawn and Belle have never gotten their happy moment, and I think it’s hard to cultivate a real following or fan support when it’s like, ‘What are we supporting?’ We’re so happy now that we get to play this happy couple…”
