Camila Parker Bowles Opens Up About The Loneliness Seniors Face During Coronavirus Isolation

Camilla Parker-Bowles was forced into self-isolation after Prince Charles revealed that he had tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this month. The Duchess admits that a good number of seniors are dealing with loneliness during the coronavirus pandemic, as they are unable to visit their loved ones during this very challenging time right now.

Camila Parker Bowles Opens Up About The Loneliness Seniors Face During Coronavirus Isolation

According to reports, Camilla Parker-Bowles called 85-year-old Doris Winfield in the Royal Voluntary Service’s ‘Check-in and Chat’ initiative. Even though Camila and her husband Prince Charles are spending the remainder of the coronavirus lockdown at their private estate near Balmoral Castle in Scotland, they are doing whatever they can to stay in touch with the citizens of the UK and especially with those who could use an extra phone call right now.

During their phone call, Camilla told Doris that the most difficult thing about being in isolation is that she can’t see her grandchildren: Gus, Louis, and Eliza Lopes. The two of them also talked about how modern technology has helped them keep in touch with their loved ones during the coronavirus quarantine.

“Having a chat with the HRH The Duchess of Cornwall meant the world to me. I’ve been incredibly lonely over the last couple of weeks and it was wonderful to talk to her,” Doris said in a statement released by Clarence House.

“We talked about life in isolation and shared hobbies, she was very interested in my family and how I was coping without them. It’s really cheered me up!” she continued.

Meanwhile, Camilla herself shared a statement and a special message of thanks to the NHS Volunteer Responders and all of those people who are on the frontlines fighting this pandemic right now. As of press time, the novel coronavirus has infected 1.4 million people in over 150 countries and has also claimed the lives of 82,080. In the United Kingdom, over 60,000 people have tested positive for the virus, with a death toll of 7,097. That number is expected to rise in the coming weeks.

The Duchess said, “Everyone working in the NHS is under unimaginable pressure day and night in this crisis. I feel sure that the presence of so many wonderful volunteers will encourage, as well as support, them. I salute each one of you—and thank you with all my heart.”
