Viewers will recall that Chuck and Charlie have been suspicious of Andrei all along, and made it their mission while in Moldova to find out the truth about his past; and now that Elizabeth’s sister Jenn, the sister who dislikes Andrei the most, has arrived, she has also joined in on the mission.
The scene starts out innocent enough; the family appears to be having fun with some type of a coin-operated punching bag game, and then when they are done playing, things again become confrontational as Jenn and Charlie reveal that they went behind Andrei’s back to ask his friend Marcel about Andrei’s past and why he really left Moldova and the Chisinau police force.
Even though Andrei and Elizabeth have been married for a while now, they still have their concerns and doubts about him, and Andrei has appeared even more suspicious to them since he goes on the defensive when they ask him about his past and remains less than forthcoming on the subject. Charlie and Andrei nearly got into a fistfight in a restaurant over what Andrei considered intrusive questions from Charlie!
Viewers may also recall Charlie got friendly with Marcel during that same dinner, and Charlie met with him to ask him about his time working with Andrei, also as a policeman, and asked Marcel why Andrei quit the force and suddenly moved to Ireland, which is where he and Elizabeth met.
It seems like no matter where they are, police have donut detectors in their cars, but Charlie was much more interested in other secrets about Andrei rather than where the best donuts are in Chisinau! Marcel told him that Andrei had refused to play along with corrupt superiors and was forced out. When Chuck, Charlie, and Jenn revealed they’d talked to Marcel behind his back he was livid, but he explained as much to them – that he could have been set up, and gotten into trouble because the police system in Moldova is so corrupt.
Marcel had also told Charlie the same thing concerning Andrei’s exit but Charlie didn’t believe him at first, since it seemed that Andrei and Marcel were claiming to be the only honest men in a whole police force! When Chuck, Charlie, and Jenn confronted Andrei with what Marcel had revealed, Elizabeth got upset too – because it didn’t line up with what Andrei had told her previously when they met in Ireland.
Andrei admitted everything that Marcel had said and their accounts matched, but Elizabeth was still upset – and in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, she verified that her family was digging up Andrei’s past and bringing it to her attention as well, and although she was disappointed that Andrei had told her a different story initially, she could understand why he would. She also said they talked about it after the episode was filmed and worked things out with each other.
