The momentary calm that Vickie achieves, in convincing Nikki not to confess to J.T.’s (Thad Luckinbill) murder, must soon be followed by a storyline climax storm. The end to this highly questionable, months-long arc has formed, or so fans are being led to believe.
Wanting to free Victor (Eric Braeden) from the bum rap Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) applied is something any normal person would want to do if she was guilty of the committed act in question. And it was an act, not a crime, Nikki committed at the exact moment when she picked up a fire place poker and hit J.T. over the head nearly nine months ago.

Instead of choosing to present an uplifting story across those nine months, like the development and birth of a baby, for example, or some other type of positive tale, Y&R chose to write Luckinbill’s character dark. J.T. was presented as a guy who was apparently pushed over the edge because of a job setback. Based on that very thin premise and the unbelievable turn of known Genoa City personality, Nikki then needed to defend Vickie, whose imminent death was implied through a violent sequence in her bedroom.
Up the stairs rushed Nikki, Phyllis, and Sharon (Sharon Case), who were mashed together at the most unlikely gathering at Vickie’s house. Nikki burst through the bedroom door, saw the monster J.T., and instinctively attacked in order to stop him from assailing the defenseless Victoria. Meanwhile, Mariah (Camryn Grimes), the soon-to-be-solo GC Buzz host, was passed out downstairs.
Then, when holding the option of making Nikki the hero, she was turned into a villain herself, Tognoni’s softer version of Phyllis instantly reverted to the Michelle Stafford edition, and Sharon became the voice of reason, which she later ditched. That’s not uplifting, but was necessary in order to create this entire arc that is now hopefully ending.
As was true last April, when at least Nikki could have told the truth to Paul (Doug Davidson) immediately after everything literally went down, Y&R still possesses the ability to be uplifting. Here’s hoping that some type of positive resolution arrives that presents this fictional version of reality in a digestible manner, which includes the redemption of its characters.
