Summer eventually decides this must’ve been payback since she slept with Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson). Phyllis argues that Billy preyed on Summer, but Summer counters that she made her own choices. She’s apologetic, so Phyllis offers comfort.
Nevertheless, Summer still feels like if being with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) is a mistake, that’s her mistake to make. She thinks Phyllis should focus on her own messy life. At Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) place, she has a wonderful evening with Billy and the kids. Later, Billy gets down on one knee and presents an engagement ring. He’s asking Victoria to marry him when Phyllis starts banging on the door looking for her ex.
At Top of the Tower, Mattie Ashby (Lexie Stevenson) and Charlie Ashby (Noah Alexander Gerry) learn Lily Ashby’s (Christel Khalil) coming home tomorrow. Cane Ashby (Daniel Goddard) brings up his plan to fix things with Lily and adds that he’s quitting Chancellor. He wants to do something else with his life and intends to give back.
Mattie rants about Cane not accepting how Lily feels and Charlie seems to think his dad’s in denial. Even so, Cane just can’t give up on Lily just yet. At the coffeehouse, Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) are there since Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) agreed to close up early. Tessa wants to play a new song where the acoustics are better and pushes for honest feedback.
After Tessa sings, Mariah offers plenty of praise and gets emotional. They sit down to dinner, declare their love and kiss before a brick crashes through the window. There’s a message attached to the brick that’s directed toward Mariah. It says, “Give up the gossip, you’re ruining people’s lives.”
At the Abbott mansion, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) clashes with Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) over the new direction of Jabot. Dina thinks Jack is destroying John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas) legacy, so he fires back about the pain of the past. Later, Jack opens up to Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) about the resentment he still feels toward Dina. It’s something he bottled up and never truly let go of.
Once Jack is alone, a young version of Dina (Cathy Marks) arrives in a vision. She wants to talk, so Jack vents and wonders why Dina left her family. Young Dina suggests she was unhappy and selfish, but she also reminds Jack to make his own choices in the present. Dina asks if Jack will keep putting John’s dream first and encourages Jack to figure out what he truly wants.
