Stafford was shown sitting at a bar in Vegas, after Phyllis had escaped from the cellar. She gathered useful information from Riza Thomas (Tina Casciani) about Adam while out west. Riza was Adam’s handler in that gambling city, as her high stakes poker player went by the name of ‘Spider’.
The brief worded recap is offered at the beginning of this feature, similar to the scene reviews that are presented to viewers at the beginning of every episode. Both memory refreshers lead to what’s coming next.
It’s good that Phyllis decided to attend The Grand Phoenix hotel’s hyped opening. Her initial intent was to wish Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) and Chelsea Newman (Melissa Claire Egan) well, while also irking them due to her unexpected presence at the location’s launch party.
After pausing for dramatic effect twice, the ever-great Stafford walked out of the camera’s sight. Phyllis was later seen behind Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) and Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy).
Phyllis’ ears perked up when ‘Delena’ was discussing the possibility that Chance Chancellor (John Driscoll) is the person who hired Amber Sinclair (a part where casting is yet to be announced, but could be a returning Mishael Morgan). The attorney sent Devon a letter citing undefined discrepancies in Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) will.
The connection potential is clear. Adam knows Chance, as Phyllis learned while in Nevada. That could mean that he’s part of Chance’s efforts to take control of Devon’s mega portion of Katherine’s estate.
Adam was surprised that Phyllis asked him to end his vendetta against the Newman family. She did that because of Summer Newman (Hunter King). Phyllis doesn’t want her daughter to be negatively impacted by Adam’s ongoing feud with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).
Whether Adam makes good on his promise to stop pursuing personal revenge, assuming he’s loses the bet, is questionable.
Phyllis’ tell to Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and others earlier this summer was revealing. She told various people that Adam wasn’t her ally. Since her statement was and is true, that means she’s also not a villain in this part of the storyline.
The true test of Phyllis’ ability to redeem herself will be if she comes forward and tips Victor, or someone close to him, off about Adam’s double dosing strategy. That, more than anything she’s done since transforming into her classic self in Vegas, would verify the goodness of her overall intentions.
Victor is Phyllis’ worst enemy because of the Marco Anaselli (Peter Bergman in a dual role) horror. While she’s already taken a number of redemptive steps, helping the ‘Moustache’ would allow her to dramatically advance in the minds of key Genoa City, Wisconsin, residents.
